Mass Casualty

Synopsis

With 12 years under his belt as a highly-regarded paramedic in Detroit, Bobbie Badger has seen it all. Despite a tragic loss that shattered his home life, he has remained a stoic guardian to the city, committed to saving lives.

Until someone, or something, chose him as a target.

As ominous warnings surface, and those closest to him begin to turn up dead, Badger’s only salvation could rest with his estranged wife, Holly - a combat veteran, and sheriff’s deputy.

Will skill, passion, and determination be enough to overcome what hunts him?

Mature Content Warning: Mass Casualty is a medical thriller featuring two paramedics and includes elements of action, comedy, heroism, crime, mystery, and suspense. Some story elements are based on true patient encounters and could elicit a strong emotional response. As this book is also a second chance romance, there are erotica romance elements featuring explicit sexual scenes including light BDSM.

Known for his cunning and eagle eyes on the crime scene, he’s assigned to decipher a string of unusual murders that will test his skill, and that of his new partner, Nick Farzo. In a city wrought with political corruption and organized crime, these two white-knight homicide detectives will stop at nothing to put the offenders behind bars.

That is, until an outside influence delivers an ultimatum to the city of Detroit on the eve of Devil’s Night, where a record number of arson outbreaks plague the city annually. When entire fire crews start turning up dead, and the the budding romances among the women closest to Nick and Carter come under fire, these two soldiers may have to loosen their moral code to put their target down.

About Derek Adams:
Derek is a retired Emergency Medical Professional and has been a lover of telling stories his entire life, having made the transition from “filthy liar” to “sexy author” about the same time silver hairs started showing up in his face (and other places.)

In the early days, he attempted to write science fiction and high fantasy, but discovered it was more fun to write about people touching other people’s tingle-places (smut is cool.) while mixing in action, explosions, and plenty of WTF moments.

He’s also a gamer, gym rat, snow hater (despite living in Michigan), life liver, stunt double for Hulk, and he considers himself to be aggressively unfancy.

Interview with Derek Adam:
1. Can you tell us a little about your books?
Both of my books take place in what I call my Motor City Universe, a version of the Detroit area (southeast Michigan) that I've created. My first book, Mass Casualty, was inspired by my time working in emergency medicine. It came from a pretty personal place and I really enjoyed working on that one. There's a lot of me and my experienced injected in that book and a ton of emotion. Due Soldati is one of the character prequels for Mass Casualty. It takes place years earlier in the timeline and features as the main character two homicide detectives that make a brief appearance in my first book. It delves into their early partnership. Lots more action, humor, romance, and steamy woowoo.

2.What got you into writing?
I wrote my first story when I was like 8 or 9 years old. It was the kind of drivel a kid would right, but when I realized I could pull any world out of my head and put it to paper, and populate it anyway I wanted, I was hooked. That was right around the time I got into Dungeons and Dragons with friends so it was just this big creative explosion for me.

3. What is a usual writing day like for you, how is it structured?
I wake up around 7 or 8, grab coffee, kiss the family, wander into my home office and disappear until it's dinner time. If I dont skip dinner I'll take a break to eat with the family but I skip meals a lot. I usually finish up around midnight or so.  Any given work day between my fiction writing and my client work (I'm a freelance writer by day) I'm churning around 5k-10k words a day.

4. Do you have a favorite spot to write?
I usually just work out of my home office even though I have a laptop. I can shut the door, turn up my Spotify, and only get bothered when one of my kids busts in to ask me for a pen for the gazillionth time.

5. What's one random fact about yourself that you can share
When I worked in EMS I once raced a life flight helicopter from one hospital to another about 20 minutes away and managed to park my rig at the ER before he touched down on the helipad. I feel like he let me win but the pilot gave me a high five and they gave me one of their flight pins.

6. If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?
The ability to manipulate and stop time at will. I could take all the time I needed to get work done, crank out some books, then start time up and enjoy all the time with my family.  Wake up the next day, stop time, crank out the work, catch a nap, start time - enjoy the day.  :D

7. Are you attending any Author Signing Event?

8. What are you working on next?
I have a couple projects I'm working on right now.  One is another character prequel for Mass Casualty, going back to the origin of Hunter - a paramedic and one of the main characters of that story. Unlike Mass Casualty which is a medical thriller/romance, Hunter's backstory will be an erotic comedy - a genre to match his personality. The other title is called Veil of Darkness. It's the first book in a series of three books that will be a paranormal romance series. The first book is slated to drop on Halloween but I plan to have signed paperbacks ready for the Glass City event on October 28th.
