Flawed Reality: Brad’s Novella
Book 4 in the Holding On series
<><><> $0.99 <><><>

Flawed Reality: a situation that is imperfect, altering ones perception of what is actually happening

My reality was flawed from the beginning. I saw things one way, the way I wanted to see them, but they were never as I envisioned. I was blinded by so much that fantasy and reality started to blur together.

Sometimes I feel like I've wasted an entire part of my life waiting on Becca. Other times I feel like it was all worth it. That, in the end, the way things worked out was the universe's way of allowing me to find the path which would lead me to where I would end up, to who I would end up with.

Who would have guessed my life would come full circle? I sure as hell wouldn't have. Even when I look back now, I still have no idea how I got so damn lucky. I was such as ass back in the day. I was selfish. I didn't care if I hurt other people as long as I got what I wanted. Then, when I didn't get what I wanted, I got angry. I suppressed my anger, got drunk and liked to fight.

Like I said, I was an ass. A Grade-A jerk. I deserved to be alone. I deserved to be miserable. I caused misery. Not because I wanted others to be miserable like I was but because it was all I knew. I was desperate for what I couldn't have, for who I couldn't be with.

Secrets & Lies
A companion novella to A Secret Life
<><><> $0.99 <><><>

“He wants me. He wants all of me. What he doesn’t know is that 90% of what I tell him is the truth. The other 10% is all secrets and lies.”
MAGDELYN BECKER lost her entire family when she was seventeen. Ever since, she’s avoided relationships at all costs: personal, physical and emotional. She doesn’t trust anyone and won’t allow herself to get close enough to create a connection. It’s the way she is - take it or leave it. Her new job as an FBI agent has her letting her guard down, and letting the wrong person into her life, her mind and her heart.
TAYLOR DONOVAN is sexy, powerful and dangerous for Maggie’s heart. He doesn’t show emotion and can spot an agent a mile away. The thought of her being an FBI agent is the farthest thing from his mind when he lays eyes on Maggie Becker. She’s beautiful, sweet and brutally honest, and honesty is not something Taylor is used to in his business. It’s her beauty which blinds him though, and it might be what costs him everything, including his heart.
No one can be honest 100% of the time, not even Maggie. It’s her job to lie to Taylor. It’s her job to break him down and then bring him down. The only problem is she has to do it without Taylor realizing it’s happening. After all, Taylor Donovan is supposed to be dead. The FBI shouldn’t be looking for him.

(Secrets & Lies is a companion novella to A Secret Life. It is recommended to read A Secret Life first to fully understand Secrets & Lies.)

Head down. Work hard. Save money. It’s all going according to plan, until Jake Bishop walks in to the diner…
In his game, everyone’s a pawn…
“Can I get you anything else, gentlemen?” she asked with a smile.

He’ll watch as the rat take the bait, as it crushes the life out of the vermin. He’s positioned his pieces…
No one touches what’s mine. No one double crosses me. If they do, they die.

Checkmate.
No one betrays me and lives.

Interview With Rachael Brownell:
  1. Can you tell us a little about your books?

Here’s the short and sweet for ya…
The Holding On series is currently 2 full length novels and one novella. There’s going to be another addition, a novella, coming this summer (hopefully). The books follow Becca, Ethan and Brad and they figure out their relationships with each other, starting in high school and moving through college and into the real world. The first book in the series, Holding On, is free on all platforms in ebook form. (YA Romance)

The Secrets Duet is a full length novel – A Secret Life – and a companion novella – Secrets & Lies. A Secret Life follows the story of Kat, a teenage girl whose life is turned upside down as she enters the Witness Protection Program. In Secrets & Lies you get to see the other side of the story. Maggie works for the FBI and you feel her struggle as she goes undercover to bring down one of the men who Kat was running from. (NA Romantic Suspense)

Take A Gamble is a beachy romantic read. It a story of young-love and the struggle we all felt at that age. MacKenna and Roe meet, there’s an instant attraction, and then they’re torn apart. He’s determined to find her and she’s hell-bent on believing that if they are meant to be together that they will find each other again someday. (NA Romance)

Dark Bishop is a serial series that I co-wrote with Author Casey Bond, my bestie. This was probably the most fun book I’ve ever written. It’s dark and twisted and comes with a content warning. Jake Bishop is a prominent lawyer in the state of Louisiana and Sydney Coder is a waitress at a diner. He has to have her and she falls for the tall, dark, handsome man with dreams that her life can be better. Jake isn’t what he pretends to be and by the time Sydney realizes, she’s in too deep. (NA Romantic Suspense, 18+)

Next (a Kiss Series novel) is coming September 1st. I’m really excited about this one. To sum it up, it’s about finding the one and not giving up on them no matter what obstacles are in your way, in this case distance and time. For Reagan, she knew Luke was the one from the very first kiss and no man will ever compare. (NA Romance)

  1. Where do you get your ideas from?
I would like to think all my ideas are inspired but that’s not really the case. Sometimes one line in a song will lead me to write a certain scene or an idea will spark from the way the song makes me feel. Most of the time though, they just pop into my head. It’s always at the most inopportune times, too. Either in the shower or while I’m driving. I guess that’s when I do my best plotting.

  1. When did you know you wanted to write a book?
I’ve always written my thoughts and feelings down. I started a book in high school but never finished it. I found it shortly after my son started Kindergarten and it was so awful I felt that I owed it to the characters to rewrite it. I guess you could say it was the “first draft” of Holding On. I loved it so much that I haven’t stopped writing since then. It’s been almost three years now.
  1. Do you prefer to write standalones or series?
I never really thought about that before. I guess I like writing series. I have a series of 4, a duet and a serial series that’s five books. Aside from that, I have one stand alone, I’m working on one stand alone and I just finished the first in a different series. So, yeah…
  1. Do you work with an outline or just write?
I’ve tried it both ways. I outlined my current WIP and it’s been a WIP since last July. All my other books have been written as the ideas come to me. I’m contemplating scrapping the outline because I have a feeling it’ll never get finished if I don’t.
  1. Do you have a favorite spot to write?
I’ve tried to write in a bunch of different places but not many work out. I have trouble concentrating if there are potential distractions. I stick with my office most of the time and I’ve arranged it where my back is to the door so movement doesn’t break my concentration. I also wear earbuds and listen to music while I write. It works out really well until someone taps me on the shoulder and scares the crap out of me.
  1. What do you do when you are not writing?
I’m learning how to golf. It’s a challenge but I enjoy it most of the time.
  1. What’s the coolest thing you have made with legos?
Well, that’s a tough one. My son is a lego fanatic so we’ve built some amazing things together. I think the coolest for me was a motorized train. It had to be over 1000 pieces for just the engine but it was really cool when we were all done.
  1. What writing projects are you currently working on?
I just wrapped up my next book called Next. Literally, finished my edits about an hour ago. Now I’m going to jump back to the book I’ve been working on for over a year called Saving Bliss. My MC, Bliss, is being a bit of a B right now. She has a mind of her own and doesn’t want to follow the script so I might have to scrap my outline and let her take the reins if I ever want to finish her story this century.
